I bought some Remington "Lube-for-Life" hair clippers.

I've been comparing tinned curries. About £1.25 + rice gets you a decent size meal for no effort. I won't be trying Patak's again. (All sauce, no chunks). The Chesswood Mild Vegetable Korma was much better. Real chunks of tinned vegetable in an lightly spiced sauce. Much milder than you'd expect even for "Mild", although some spice does come through after a few keen mouthfuls. Still a bit too much sauce for my taste.

As you can see, I'm back online. To save money I'm not paying for broadband. I made the mistake of opting for Demon dialup (£11.75) + BT "Together with Surf" (£6) option for free evening and weekend calls: only £17.75 total per month. Ouch! (And that doesn't include the mandatory BT line rental, a further £10.50 per month).
The total fee of £28.25 is nearly the same price as a cable modem. Outrageous!
I thought the BT option was required to get free calls from any ISP. I've been corrected... Just discovered Freeserve at £6.99/month gets me free calls all day, not just evenings and weekends, and there's no need to pay BT to enable flat rates. Freeserve seem to be reliable so far. The offer only lasts for 3 months; then I will go hunting for another deal.
I spent a delightful Christmas week in Walthamstow, London, with Janet and her mother. What delicious food! I loved the fried plaintains and spicy rice-and-vegetable dishes best, but it was all good. Visited her father, where again I was treated to some delicious food - Jollof rice being my favourite there.
Saw Alice the activist a couple of times in Brixton. She has gone to Palestine now to witness life there. Thankfully she is able to write it up. (Commenting and photos will be added ASAP).
Then Janet headed back to Geneva and I travelled to my family in Conwy, North Wales.
Then what a spontaneous and delightful surprise: Janet came over to see us in Wales! (Thank you dearest!) We had a lovely time being lazy. Mum and Dad both had their 50th birthdays while I was there, and my sister Cheryl had her 20th. Not very lavish occasions, but a fine excuse for the trip as I don't often spend the new year with my family.
I got back to Bristol on Tuesday (2003/1/14), to discover I had just missed the perfect 2nd hand curtains for my enormous street level bedroom window. Alas! I must find curtains, and they must be simultaneously cheap and warm.
It is good to be back. Coding & massage, ah this is the life.
Hugs all,
- Jamie -
